Minor Surgical Procedures

At DR+ Medical & Paincare, our doctors provide a range of minor surgical procedures in a safe, professional outpatient setting. All procedures are carried out following a medical consultation to assess your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

Overview

DR+ Medical & Paincare GP clinics are fully equipped to perform a range of minor surgical procedures in a sterile, clinical setting. Common procedures include excision of cysts and lipomas, skin tag and mole removal, wound suturing, abscess drainage, ingrown toenail treatment, and joint injections. Most procedures are carried out under local anaesthesia and completed within the same visit.

What Are Minor Surgical Procedures?

Minor surgical procedures are simple, low-risk medical treatments that can be performed in a clinic without the need for general anaesthesia or a hospital stay.

They are usually done using local anaesthesia to numb a small area, allowing you to stay awake and comfortable. These procedures are typically quick, involve minimal downtime, and have a low risk of complications.

Why Have Minor Surgery at a GP Clinic?

icon
Faster access, & shorter waiting time

GP clinics usually offer quicker scheduling compared to hospitals. For minor procedures like cyst removal, wound suturing, or nail surgery, you can often get treated within days instead of waiting weeks for a specialist slot.

icon
Lower overall cost

Procedures performed at a GP clinic are typically more affordable. You avoid hospital facility fees, specialist consultation charges, and additional administrative costs, which can add up significantly in private hospitals.

icon
Convenience and accessibility

GP clinics are widely located across neighbourhoods, making them easy to access. This is especially helpful for follow-up visits, dressing changes, or stitch removal, which may require multiple trips.

icon
Continuity of care

Your GP often already knows your medical history, medications, and any underlying conditions. This allows for more personalised care before, during, and after the procedure, without needing to repeat your history to multiple providers.

Minor Surgical Procedures We Provide

Mole Removal
From $400

A mole is a common skin growth that can vary in size, shape, and colour. While most moles are harmless, some may be removed if they are changing in appearance, causing irritation, or for cosmetic reasons. Our doctor will assess the mole and recommend the most appropriate removal method, such as shave or excision, performed under local anaesthesia. The procedure is quick, with minimal discomfort, and samples can be sent for further testing if needed.

Skin Tag Removal
From $400

Skin tags are small, soft flaps of skin that can appear on the neck, armpits, or other areas where skin rubs together. They are harmless but can be uncomfortable or bothersome. Our doctor will remove them quickly and safely under local anaesthesia, with minimal downtime.

Cyst Removal
From $400

A cyst is a small, closed sac under the skin that may feel like a lump. It is usually harmless but can become painful or infected over time. Our doctor will remove the entire cyst to prevent it from returning, using a small incision under local anaesthesia.

Lipoma Removal
From $400

A lipoma is a soft, slow-growing lump made of fatty tissue just beneath the skin. It is non-cancerous and usually painless, but some people prefer to have it removed if it is growing, causing discomfort, or affecting their confidence. Removal is performed as a simple outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia.

Nail Avulsion (Ingrown Toenail)
From $300

An ingrown nail occurs when the edge of a nail — most commonly on the big toe — grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, redness, and sometimes infection. Our doctor will numb the area and remove the problematic edge of the nail to relieve discomfort and allow proper healing.

Wound Cleaning & Dressing Change
From $40

Proper wound care is essential to prevent infection and promote healing. Whether you have a cut, graze, or post-procedure wound, our clinic team will clean, assess, and dress your wound using sterile materials. We can also advise on home care and schedule follow-up reviews as needed.

Wound Stitching
From $250

Wound stitching is performed to close cuts or lacerations, helping to stop bleeding, reduce the risk of infection, and promote proper healing. It is commonly required for deeper wounds that cannot close on their own. Our doctor will first clean and assess the wound, then carefully close it using sutures under local anaesthesia. Follow-up care, including dressing changes and stitch removal, will be advised to ensure optimal healing and minimise scarring.

Foreign Body Removal (Skin/ Eye/ Ear)
$250

A foreign body refers to any object that has become lodged in the skin, eye, or ear, such as a splinter, debris, or small particle. This can cause pain, irritation, or infection if not removed promptly. Our doctor will carefully assess the area and remove the object using appropriate techniques under sterile conditions, ensuring minimal discomfort and reducing the risk of complications.

Incision & Drainage of abscess
From $250

An abscess is a collection of pus under the skin that can cause swelling, redness, and significant pain. It often results from a bacterial infection and may not resolve on its own. Our doctor will perform a small incision to drain the pus, relieve pressure, and promote healing. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, followed by proper wound care to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Aspiration of Fluid/ Blood/ Cyst
$180

Fluid or blood can sometimes accumulate under the skin due to injury, inflammation, or cyst formation, leading to swelling and discomfort. Our doctor will use a fine needle to gently draw out the fluid (aspiration), helping to relieve pressure and improve symptoms. This is a quick, minimally invasive procedure performed under sterile conditions.

Knee Aspiration
$150

Knee aspiration, also known as joint aspiration, is a procedure used to remove excess fluid from the knee joint. This may be required when there is swelling due to injury, inflammation, or conditions such as arthritis. By removing the fluid, the procedure helps reduce pain and improve movement. It is performed using a sterile needle and is typically quick, with minimal downtime.

Corn / Callus Removal
From $50

Corns and calluses are areas of thickened, hardened skin that develop from repeated pressure or friction — commonly on the feet. They can be painful, especially when walking. Our doctor will carefully remove the thickened skin to relieve discomfort and advise on preventing recurrence.

Ear Syringing (one ear)
From $60

Ear syringing is a safe and effective method to remove earwax build-up causing blocked ears, reduced hearing, or discomfort. Warm water is gently flushed into the ear canal to soften and flush out the wax. The procedure is quick and generally well-tolerated.

What to Expect: The Procedure Process

When you arrive for a minor procedure at DR+, your doctor will assess your condition to ensure it is safe to treat in the clinic. Factors such as the size and location of the lesion, your overall health, and any medications you are taking will be considered.

A local anaesthetic is usually given to numb the area, so you stay awake but comfortable. Most procedures take between 15 minutes and an hour, depending on complexity. Afterward, the area will be dressed, and you will receive clear instructions on how to care for the wound at home.

Book Your Appointment

Minor surgical procedures are available at DR+ GP clinics island-wide. We recommend calling ahead to confirm availability for your specific procedure, as some cases require preparation or equipment setup.

Walk-ins are welcome at all DR+ locations during operating hours. To ensure you are seen promptly and that the appropriate supplies are ready, we advise booking an appointment in advance for surgical procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to have minor surgery at a DR+ clinic?

No referral is needed. You can visit any DR+ Medical & Paincare clinic directly, and our GP will assess your condition during the consultation. The doctor will determine whether the procedure is suitable for in-clinic management, discuss the options with you, and proceed if appropriate. If specialist care is needed, we will provide a referral at that point.

Will the procedure be painful?

Most minor surgical procedures at DR+ are performed under local anaesthesia, which numbs the area completely before the procedure begins. You may feel a brief sting from the anaesthetic injection, but should not feel pain during the procedure itself. If at any point you feel discomfort, tell your doctor immediately and they will address this before continuing.

How long does a minor surgical procedure take?

Most procedures take between 15 and 60 minutes in the clinic, depending on the type and complexity of the surgery. Simpler procedures such as skin tag removal or suture removal take only a few minutes. More involved procedures such as cyst excision or ingrown toenail surgery may take longer. Your doctor will give you a realistic estimate during your pre-procedure assessment.

Can I use CHAS or Medisave for minor surgery?

Medisave is claimable for in-house minor surgical procedures at DR+ clinics. CHAS and Healthier SG subsidies apply primarily to the GP consultation and eligible chronic disease management visits. We recommend checking with our clinic staff for the most current information on what can be claimed for your specific procedure.

What happens to the tissue after it is removed?

For procedures such as cyst excision, mole removal, or lipoma removal, the excised tissue may be sent to a pathology laboratory for histological examination. This confirms the nature of the tissue and is an important safety step. Your DR+ doctor will inform you whether this applies to your case and will follow up with you once the results are available.
